Read on for more details about the origin, taste and uses of this liquid honey.
12,000 years ago, Mexico was home to the first avocado trees known to man. Today, the region of Michoacan on the Pacific coast of western Mexico produces half of the world's avocado crop. Our Raw Pacific Avocado Honey is produced by bees that feed on the nectar from these avocado trees, which are situated 5000ft high on the mountain slopes of Michoacan.
The avocado tree grows 20m high with leaves 12-25cm long and small green-yellow flowers 5-10mm wide. It only grows in tropical or subtropical climates.
Tasting notes: Bold, rich, woody, smoky, burnt sugar and caramel notes that mellow into maple syrup and molasses with a subtle aftertaste of avocado
Texture: Buttery smooth black liquid that is silky on the tongue but dissolves quickly
Aroma: Strong, lactic as if fermenting, similar to cooked butter and warm chestnut
Mixed in cold water, this honey makes a nutritious, refreshing and tasty drink. With thick Greek yoghurt, it makes a healthy snack or breakfast. And drizzled on top of premium vanilla ice cream, it makes a delicious dessert.
In accordance with EU directive 1924/2006 we are unable to make any health claim about any of our honeys. The information given below is either background information about the plants from which our honey comes, or anecdotal based on customer reviews. I have bought quite a few of Latin Honey Shop honeys and I found them all to be superb. However the avocado honey is in another league. It is not too sweet with elements almost of salted caramel. I have found some of the others little too sweet and fragrant for my taste. As raw honey is the only sweetener I am permitted on an anti-cancer regime, this avocado honey has been the cornerstone of my raw food culinary repertoire. I am therefore gutted to find that it is out of stock and not available until 2019. I had tried to order it a month ago to find it out of stock, then received a notification that it was in stock again. Guess I was too late.
The Pacific Avocado taste different from honeys I have been eating. Nice colour, texture and has a different taste that I liked.
I also bought Pacific Moho Tree which came already set and crystallised something I didn't really appreciate as I like my honey runny. I understand I can have it inside a hot water jag to get it runny again but from my experience it never taste the same when it is on its original state. I didn't like it especially for the money I paid.
