Read on for more details about the origin, taste and uses of this honey.
Hidden away beyond the mountains, canyons and ravines of Oaxaca state in south-western Mexico lie the tropical bays of the Pacific coast where heliocarpus "Moho" trees grow in abundance.
This honey is produced by the bees who feed on the nectar primarily from these trees and from the golden sunflowers surrounding these trees.
The scientific name for the Moho tree genus is heliocarpus. The word heliocarpus means "sun-seed" in Greek. It is named after the appearance of the Moho Tree fruit, which has a halo-like fringe of bristles around the seed, making it look like the blazing sun.
The Moho tree is a large tree, growing up to 30m in height. The 16-20cm long leaves are covered in reddish hairs.
Tasting notes: Fresh melon and candied citrus peel notes that blend into subtle aftertones of cinnamon and refreshing mint
Texture: Part-set part-runny honey which crystallises quickly due to its high pollen content
Aroma: Fresh, fruity and floral
This honey tastes delicious straight from the spoon, or mixed into cold water, it makes a nutritious and refreshing drink. It is tasty over toast or porridge, or with good quality yoghurt, fresh cream or ice-cream.
In accordance with EU directive 1924/2006 we are unable to make any health claim about any of our honeys. The information given below is either background information about the plants from which our honey comes, or anecdotal based on customer reviews. It should not be inferred from the plant properties that this honey automatically possesses the same qualities or provides the same benefits as the plant.
Plants from the heliocarpus genus, to which the Moho tree belongs, have been used in traditional healing in Mexico for centuries.
A scientific study in UAM University, Mexico City, in 2008 concluded that there is indeed a clinical basis for the use of the heliocarpus plant in helping to relieve headaches and insomnia.
A 2001 scientific study at the University of Habana in Cuba found that the Majagua (Moho) tree has antioxidant properties that help to combat asthma.
The study found that several naturally occurring chemical compounds contained in the flower were found to inhibit the formation of substances that aggravate the airways of asthmatics.
This honey can be used like ordinary honey but is best taken as a teaspoon of this honey mixed into a glass of cool or warm (not hot) water and drunk three times a day on an empty stomach.

It has a lovely raw taste and I used it as a sweetener for oatmeal, toast and for herbal drink, very satisfied.
Unfortunately, this honey arrived already crystallised. The description state this honey gets crystallised after about two months which I was okay with knowing that I consume my jar of honey within a month. I am aware of the method to get this honey runny again, but in my experience, it never tastes the same after it crystallised. I don't buy set honey unless it is runny or in a creamy state. Since this purchased was made online and description was clearly describing the honey as runny, I went ahead and bought the item.
I have requested an exchanged or an alternative, but instead, I received an article on how to make my honey runny again! I've insisted on a solution to the problem and all I received is a message to contact the customer service before purchasing any honey to inquire about the honey state before buying it. Will I buy from this website again, let's see if the customer service improves in the future by watching this space.
It has a really smooth taste and I wanted runny honey. I havent used it enough to vouch for its high pollen count and help with hayfever but its worth every penny.
We like trying different honeys and again another fanstastic honey with very unique taste which kids love
